Making An Impact Annual Highlights
Addressing Root Causes of Health Care Costs
With Affordability Cures, we made a commitment to investments and innovation that will have a lasting impact on the cost of health care and coverage. In 2018, we focused on empowering whole-person health and helping bridge gaps in our fragmented health care system.
Investing in Community Partners to Improve Health
We invested more than $7 million through our Healthy Kids, Healthy Families® initiative in our nonprofit partners in 2018 to improve access to preventive health services and other resources for healthier lives and communities. This includes supporting 26 food banks to distribute more than 2.5 million pounds of food in our five states.
Bridging Gaps in Preventive Care
Our Care Van mobile health programs bring vital preventive health services to communities across our five states. In 2018, they helped deliver 73,118 vaccinations and 100,761 health screenings and other services to 135,994 people. We’re also expanding their resources and scope.
Uniting Diverse Talent
We support an environment where all employees feel valued, empowered and recognized for their unique talents, perspectives and differences. We’re proud to have received recognition for this commitment from Human Rights Campaign, Disability:IN, Forbes and G.I. Jobs.
Fostering Solutions to Improve Health Equity
Many things besides medical care – like housing, transportation and food access – play a role in health and well-being. That’s why we’re engaging in honest discussions and supporting innovative ideas to improve health equity.
Making Connections in Our Communities
In 2018, we had 7,320 employees record 136,097 hours of service with organizations across our five states. Each year, we recognize employees for especially significant and lasting contributions.
Caring for Our Environment
The environment has a big impact on health and well-being. We’re committed to sustainable business practices like recycling, waste reduction, renewable energy use and responsible food sourcing. This value extends to our community efforts, too. In 2018, our grants to bike-share programs put more than 6,300 bikes on the road.
