A year ago, Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) and National Fitness Campaign launched an effort to bring outdoor fitness courts to communities across Illinois and Texas. Since then, municipalities and park districts have invited community members to events unveiling the new courts completed so far.
The courts are built in areas where people can easily access them, and they feature structures designed for use by people of all ages and ability levels. “I'm excited because I need to get in shape, and this is free,” said Cynthia Gilmore, who attended an event unveiling a fitness court in Riverdale, Illinois. “I walk my community all the time. And so now I can walk and stop, workout on the fitness court, and then continue on my day.”
