Position on Current Political Contribution Activity

This weekend, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) made an announcement that it would stop making contributions through its political action committee (PAC) to some lawmakers. BCBSA owns and manages the Blue Cross and Blue Shield trademarks and names and licenses them to 36 independent, community-based and locally operated Blue Cross Blue Shield companies.

Health Care Service Corporation takes a nonpartisan, industry leadership role in working with lawmakers at the federal and state level to advocate for a stable health care system that promotes innovation and expands access to quality, cost-effective health care. This has included participation in policy development efforts on both sides of the aisle.

A political action committee (PAC) is an entity generally formed by corporations, labor unions, trade associations, other organizations or individuals that provides support to political candidates using voluntary contributions from individual employees. The HCSC 2021 PAC budget is still being determined. We currently aren’t in a giving cycle, so we have no active decisions to make at this time.
