Environmental Sustainability

In keeping with our corporate citizenship core value, Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) has implemented several programs and systems over the years that demonstrate a strong commitment to environmental sustainability. In order to help the environment, we:
- Use high-efficiency fluorescent light bulbs for office lighting
- Recycle used fluorescent light bulbs
- Recycle wood shipping pallets
- Use green cleaning products
- Use building automation technology for building heating, air conditioning and office lighting to ensure high-energy efficiency
- Recycle aluminum cans and plastic bottles
- Have a paper recycling program
- Have a program to save birds and stop them from crashing into our buildings
The most visible program is the paper recycling program. HCSC encourages maximum participation in the program, particularly in conjunction with paperless communication strategies. Annual environmental statistics are communicated to show employees that their contribution really counts.
In addition, HCSC's members save nearly 90 trees - or 7 million pieces of paper - each year by choosing to receive electronic EOBs (Explanation of Benefits). Still, we'd like to see all of our members opt for this environmentally friendly approach. By doing so, we could all play a role in saving nearly 300 trees every year. That's more than 22 million pieces of paper annually. To be part of our effort, log into Blue Access for Members (links below) and Go Paperless!
