Diversity

diverse workplace

At Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC), diversity and inclusion are embedded in every part of our business. Our commitment to diversity is demonstrated in how we serve our customers, engage our employees, connect with the communities in which we operate and partner with suppliers and other business stakeholders. We do this by

  • Maintaining an inclusive and culturally competent workforce where differences are valued
  • Leveraging the diverse skills and worldviews of all employees in order to respond to our increasingly diverse customers
  • Ensuring that we integrate diversity considerations in our strategies to provide affordable and accessible health care solutions

"Diversity is a way of doing business at HCSC. We value and practice inclusion as well as promote cultural competence among our work force and work partners. And because we are a more diverse health care company, we can better understand our policy holders. In particular, we're more capable of seeing health issues from the consumer's perspective."

Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace

Our employees are the cornerstone of our business and our workforce reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. Ongoing efforts are made to attract, develop and engage our diverse pool.

HCSC fosters an inclusive work environment where all employees are valued contributors to achieving business objectives and are recognized and rewarded accordingly. Through leadership commitment, we are able to maintain a diverse and culturally competent workforce that is sensitive and responsive to our customers needs.

Key components of diversity and inclusion (D&I) at HCSC include:

  • Education and competency – We have an annual training commitment to develop a culturally competent workforce.
  • D&I council – Chaired by the CEO, this diverse group of employees assess the effectiveness of diversity and inclusion efforts and promote engagement throughout the enterprise.
  • Executive D&I council – This group functions as a steering committee to ensure that diversity and inclusion remains integral to the strategies at HCSC.
  • Employee resource groups (ERGs) – These are voluntary, employee driven groups that support diversity and inclusion goals. These include: African Americans in Motion, Asian American Resource Group, Black Data Processing Associates, Europa, HCSC Pride Alliance, In-Abled, Latinos for Advancement, Supporters of Military Veterans, Voices of Diversity and Women Improving the Strength of the Enterprise (WISE).

Commitment to Our Members and the Community

As the largest customer-owned health insurer in the United States and fourth largest overall, HCSC realizes the importance of connecting to what matters most to our customers and the communities in which they live.
