Diversity at Health Care Service Corporation

Diversity at HCSC refers to human differences and similarities among employees, customers and key constituents that affect:

  • overall success of individual employees and the company;
  • work and business environments;
  • customer satisfaction; and
  • community and general public perception of our products and services.


Mission:

The mission of Corporate Diversity is to foster a diverse work environment where all employees are valued, enabled to positively contribute to Health Care Service Corporation’s business objectives and are recognized and rewarded accordingly.

Through the commitment and leadership of HCSC’s Board of Directors and our senior management, we strive to weave diversity into the way we manage and interact as employees, and serve and interact with our customers, providers and the community by

  • creating a more open and inclusive culture; and
  • aligning diversity initiatives with other business strategies.


Our Diversity goal is to create and nurture a work environment that,

  • encourages all employees to contribute their unique talents;
  • makes available the diversity of ideas and opinions needed to achieve our business objectives;
  • is open to the diverse skills, ideas and perspectives of all employees;
  • responds to the varied needs of our increasingly diverse customers; and
  • maximizes individual, team and organizational performance.


The overall goal of the company's diversity efforts is to encourage and utilize the diverse ideas, skills and experiences of all employees in achieving organizational objectives. Diversity focuses on how employees are managed and how employees interact with each other, customers, vendors and the community.

We foster and celebrate diversity at HCSC through,

  • the leadership of our Corporate Diversity Department;
  • inclusion of diversity in each business unit’s strategic planning;
  • employee led cultural heritage events and celebrations;
  • volunteer diversity committees throughout the company;
  • awareness and skill building diversity sessions for all our employees;
  • the HCSC Diversity Council, which promotes diversity throughout HCSC and is composed of employees from all levels of the company;
  • Diversity/Family Day, which is a paid floating holiday; and
  • a formal Diversity Vendor and Supplier Program with goals established by our Board of Directors.
