Community Involvement
Health Care Service Corporation’s community involvement
is rooted in one of HCSC’s Core Values: Corporate Citizenship. Our
Corporate Giving Program places a major emphasis on contributions to organizations
that are aligned with HCSC’s health care and human service mission.
In addition, the program helps HCSC’s divisions maintain their local
focus and presence through support of community-based cultural and educational
programs.
More Than Dollars
HCSC’s Corporate Giving Program includes
sustained monetary support for a variety of programs and organizations.
However, the HCSC Corporate Giving Program provides more than financial
support for organizations. It also provides hands-on involvement through
company management representation on the boards of directors of charitable
organizations and direct involvement of management in the operations and
events of the organizations that the company supports financially. Often
the time and talent of these volunteers are more valuable to the organizations
than monetary contributions.
In-kind Giving
As a technologically advanced company, HCSC is required
to utilize the latest advancements in computers. From time to time, the
company has surplus equipment that is no longer useful to HCSC, but is
far from obsolete. Through the Corporate Giving Program, this equipment
often finds a second life in schools and community organizations.
CareVan Program
The CareVan Program in both Illinois and Texas is a
highly effective program that uses mobile clinics to provide health care
services such as childhood immunizations and health information to underserved
communities, both inner city and rural.
Begun in 1990 by the Illinois Division, the CareVan
Program was the first of its kind in the nation and serves as a model
for similar programs sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans across
the country.
